Conditions of Residence
The facilities are for the benefit of widows who qualify under the Trust.
Applicants must be in reasonably good health and capable of managing the property without assistance.
The accommodation is occupied rent and council tax free but residents pay their own telephone and electricity bills.
The bungalows are unfurnished and it is assumed that each resident will supply her own furniture etc.
Family and friends are welcome to stay for short periods but the second bedroom may not be used for letting or for a permanent visitor.
Owing to the communal nature of the area surrounding the accommodation, dogs and cats cannot be permitted.
The Trust is responsible for maintenance, exterior and interior decorations and maintaining the grounds and gardens.
Evidence of health is required to confirm that the applicant is fit enough to live on her own and it is necessary to have a friend or relative who can assist in times of difficulty, since the Trust does not provide nursing care or nighttime assistance.
There is no resident warden. However, each resident is linked to a local telephone emergency service by push button phone and portable call button courtesy of the Trust.
Location of Properties
The coastal resort of Weymouth sits on the Dorset coastline and is at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, a 95-mile stretch of coastline that UNESCO has awarded World Heritage status because of its geological importance.
The beautiful beach is equally matched by the historic harbour side, where an active fishing fleet sits happily with visiting yachts. The town centre is close to both, making Weymouth easy to get around.
The waters around Weymouth and Portland are considered to offer some of the best sailing conditions in Europe, which is why the sailing events for the 2012 Olympics will be held here.
With its mild climate and absence of major motorways, Dorset has retained its quiet and peaceful lifestyle. Even during the summer months, when the area sees an influx of visitors, life is not unduly disrupted.
